NuBus is the high-end expansion architecture for the Macintosh II product family. Apple will continue to support the efforts of third-party developers who design new types of expansion cards for NuBus where possible.

The 030 Direct Slot was designed with this high-end strategy in mind. NuBus designs can be converted easily to 030 Direct Slot designs, and in many cases the same software drivers can be used on both cards.

The Macintosh SE expansion slot continues to offer a cost-effective alternative to users who do not need the performance of the Macintosh SE/30 and the 030 Direct Slot.
